Synopsis
William lives in a gray world. His moods, his thoughts, even most of his clothes are gray. But one gray morning, a mysterious girl appears. Her name is Purple, and she is the only dash of color in William's gray yard. She asks his name, and when he answers "Um, well...," she dubs him Umwell the Gray, then leads him on an exploration of a world that is always new and beautiful to eyes that can see. This picture book story is a celebration of the ever-present newness and change around and within us. Because newness is more readily discernible in nature than in human lives, the story relies on Purple's guidance through the natural world to build a bridge to William's inner world. At first he can't see what Purple sees in a falling leaf, a cloud, a swirling stream, a tidepool, but bit by bit, the world comes to life for him, and as it does, Rebecca Evans's palette evolves from gray to multihued. At last Umwell becomes William, but a different William than he was before. He is a new boy, looking out upon a new world., Her name is Purple, and she is the only dash of color in William's gray yard. Umwell the Gray can't see what Purple sees in a falling leaf, a cloud, a swirling stream, a tidepool. She is demanding, challenging, frustrating, but compelling. Though he doesn't understand her, he wants to be around her. Bit by bit the world comes to life for him, and as it does, Rebecca Evans's palette evolves from gray to multihued. At last Umwell becomes William, but a different William than he was before. He is a new boy, looking out upon a new world.

- i***c (888)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseThis is a frustrated positive feedback. I am always perplexed when sellers choose to ship via an "off-brand" shipper, e.g., OSM Worldwide. This tends to delay the time it takes to get to me vs more "traditioaal" shipped, e.g., USPS, UPS, or FED-EX. This is a pretty good seller. The price was good, the shipping pretty prompt (though deliver took a bit longer than I expected), and the communication was pretty good as well.
- z***i (1162)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI recently purchased a book from this Seller, and I couldn't be more pleased with the entire experience. The book arrived in excellent condition, exactly as described. It was packaged in a sturdy, reusable cardboard envelope using no plastic at all. Delivery was surprisingly fast, exceeding my expectations. I highly recommend this Seller!Wombat, the Reluctant Hero (#364491341296)
- 2***4 (110)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThis by far is the most amazing packaging ever. What an awesome surprise....The book ordered was in EXCELLENT perfect condition...I have purchased new books from ebay but never has one arrived as advertised "NEW" and perfect like this one. Kudos to this seller....I am beyond impressed...certainly will be a returning customer. The price for the book was half the price of the same book from other sellers...and it was a good buy. These Tangled Threads (Biltmore) (#305994249122)
