Educational & appropriate for all ages
I didn't know the true story of Princess Kaiulani, but this fictionalized film version also includes, on the DVD, a documentary about her that is just as interesting as the movie. The movie sticks close to the facts except for the added romance. It is appropriate for all ages (kissing; no sex or crude language). The acting is excellent and the scenery is beautiful. I was shocked to learn that the United States actually stole Hawaii from its educated and civilized royal family. Princess Kaiulani and her aunt, the queen, were strong, courageous women who displayed grace under great pressure. This film will appeal to anyone interested in learning more about Hawaii, as well as to fans of films about admirable young women, such as WILD HEARTS CAN'T BE BROKEN, LITTLE WOMEN, and ANNE OF GREEN GABLES.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Everyone must see this movie, a story the history books never tell but should.
Very enlightening...history that we never learn in school of how the U.S. annexed Hawaii and took control of their country, dethroning the king, arresting his sister (next in line for the throne), confiscating all their wealth. Princess Kaiulani was relentless at trying to save her country and her people and she did all she could. She was the reason her people were made automatic citizens when the U.S. took over. She was only 17 when she gave her first major speech to her people and at age 22 she fought one last fight for justice. Once the U.S. took over she only lived one more year. Most people say she died of a broken heart as she said so many times after her country was taken that she had nothing to live for. Another story of how a country was stolen of its royalty status, its wealth to be governed by another country. Very sad.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
