Father, who has a scientific turn of mind, has just discovered fire. Uncle Vanya thinks that the species has been flirting with disaster ever since it began to chip flint into tools. While little Alexander has gotten himself in deep trouble by making the first cave painting: artists are always so misunderstood.
From homo erectus to homo sapiens in one generation
An excellent book for all ages written with humour about the changes necessary to become human. The central character - a contemplative homo erectus - leads his family group into humanity. The back story covers the changes necessary for this "upgrade": controlling fire, securing a safe home, living in groups, protection from attackers, etc. Makes you realise how far we've come.
One of the funniest things I have read. First recommended by Terry Pratchett (God rest him) on the radio many years ago. Now buying it for a friend who appreciates dry wit and humor. A classic gem, simple but deep insight into the human condition set in our earliest days.
Bought on a recommendation from the great Sir Terry Parachett
Engaging, funny and different, Roy Lewis has written a clever take on one, individual prehistoric man. Loved the cover and feel of the book too (I'm a bit nerdy like that). Influenced the most terribly-missed Sir Terry and you can see why.
