Notes
The Old Friends Story I first met Hank Logan in an office on 59 street New York City, 1969. That office was full of Heavy weights! Michael Lang (Woodstock), Producer Thomas Jefferson Kay, Wes Farrell (Tina Sinatra's husband)and five other great session players that were going to make up a new group called White Cloud !! A super group that Wes conceived of based on Crosby, Stills and Nash's success. I was so impressed with Hank's songs, and I guess they were too. They removed Hank from the band to try and make him a solo artist. To make a long story short White Cloud released five albums that year and Hank's Deal fell apart... and the songs were never recorded!! That is where our friendship became even stronger. Hank and I rehearsed in my apartment for years learning his whole repertoire. Hank my mentor taught me how to craft a song! Hank ,is also probably one of the greatest rock-soul sax players left around today! Skip ahead- a good friend, Andy Plesser, was putting together a big outdoor concert at Antioch College and Poco, who was one of the best country rock bands around, was booked to be the main act and we were the opener as a duo. That was one of the biggest gig of our lives...5000 people outdoors Holy shit!! Fast forward again: White Cloud breaks up!! I started working every day with Hank trying to put a band together and we finally got it assembled and we're just about to go on the road when our manager decided to put Hank on the road with the established band called (Breakfast Special). Wrong turn! They broke up and we were pissed that we were left hanging! We started a new Band called 3-D which went on to record three albums for Polydor Records. We got a national tour with the The J Geils Band, The Ramones, The Cars and we did Saturday Night Live. WHAT A RIDE! Fast forward 3-D broke up and we started a new band called the Loners and we invited Hank to play sax!We rocked New York City for about a year and a half. We were offered a deal but it wasn't enough $$. We turned it down! BIG MISTAKE!!! Fast forward yet again: I built a recording studio, started doing jingles, TV shows, music for radio (Howard Stern), all sorts of good stuff. Hank and I stayed close over the years. The love of those songs that started me out in the music business 40 years ago, kept haunting me. They were never recorded and even worst no one would get hear them. Two years ago I decided to start recording Hank's catalog. All of the musical arrangements on "Old Friends" were done from memory. I guess after all that rehearsing of the "Logan song book" it became a part of my DNA. These songs are classics. The craftsmanship, lyrics and hooks are brilliant ! They still rock and hold true!!! Thanks Mr. Logan for all this wonderful music! I hope you love this CD as much as I loved making it. Special Thanks to all my old friends; some of the original players from way back when! Their help was instrumental in putting this project together. Thank You Hank, my old buddy -"this is for you!!"
