If you rub the varnish off the guitar then you will need several tins of this nitrocellouse to cover. I put about 18 - 20 coats to do it correctly. the first 7-8 coats sealed the wood then every 3-4 coats I rubbed it down with 220 grit and worked my way through the grits to 1000 grit. got a good finish in the end but ran out of varnish so I had to order another tin to get that super finish. So to spray the frount of the guitar cost me abour £50 in varnish and Wet & Dry paper.If you rub the varnish off the guitar then you will need several tins of this nitrocellouse to cover. Was nervous applying this over a mixed surface where I had stained a guitar body with water based stains and then applied a stencil design using paint pens but it showed no signs of reacting with the surface. One aerosol was just the right amount to apply a good number of coats.
