Save money, get a better radio. Used T5500s are a much better deal than cheap new radios. These are great for track meets and other events. Handy around the house, like for finding the right breaker to turn off. I bought two of these new back when you needed a GMRS license for the GMRS channels. In 2017, the FCC simplified FRS and GMRS rules and retro-actively classified these "bubble pack" FRS/GRMS radios as FRS. No more license required on any channel. I have since purchased three more sets on eBay for very reasonable prices. On the old GMRS only channels, these are 1W. Running on 3xAA batteries, they have a very long battery life. With the privacy codes they don't make noise and you only hear your people talking. (It's not encryption, it's just an automatic squelch.) I've had them work at 0.6 miles from inside a track stadium to a couple of blocks away in an urban environment. They had clear and strong audio, so I know they can do more. New radios are not as good. Their NiMH rechargeable batteries have half or less of AA batteries. Without privacy codes, they can be noisier and you hear other people on the same channel. Don't believe the 10 mile, 22 mile, and other marketing inspired ranges on new radios -- UHF is line of sight, 3-4 miles maximum on the flat.Read full review

My second set of Motorola MS350R units. I used my first Motorola set in the Health Medical Field where dependability and functionality were an absolute necessity. My second second set of MS350R, just received this week, will be used on a pair of recumbent trikes the wife and I will be touring cross country. Again---being in contact with the wife in case I fall too far behind on our trikes is vital to me. Phenominal radios at a great price.
