I first heard about this game from a friend, before I got my own PS3, and I was impressed by what I saw. So, it was only natural that once I got my own PS3, I would have to give this game another try. What I really like about this game from the moment you start is the character customization. I would think that more FPS games would use this system, but alas, they don't. Players are able to choose from a great variety of clothing (helmet/cap, sunglasses/goggles, shirts, and pants), armor, and equipment. Another thing I really like about this game is the ability to level your character in any mode of play (story, terrorist hunt, and online). When you level your character (rank, Marksmanship points, CQB points, and Assault points), you unlock new items to customize your character. I was a huge fan of a Modern Warfare 2 for a couple of months after the release, but ultimately moved on due to the many faults the franchise still had not fixed. In MW2, you could only level your character in online multiplayer mode, and the character you did have online did not transfer over to any other part of play. So, to unlock the better items to play with, you would have to play for hours and hours and hours on end... which just got boring after a while. With Rainbow Six Vegas 2, you have that freedom that you don't often get. The storyline itself is pretty good, you often get 2 computer controlled team members, whom you can give orders to and control via commands. More often than not, I make them stay in a corner away from the action so I can level my character... they tend to be just a little too good if you are trying to up your points. Online was pretty decent when I saw my friend play it a while back, I haven't tried it at all... because one FPS online experience is pretty much the same no matter what game you play. There is another mode of play, called Terrorist Hunt, where you can choose a level, the difficulty of AI, the amount of enemies in the level, and whether or not you'd like teammates. It's alright, and sometimes a quick way to level your character outside of the story and online modes. However, it gets pretty boring pretty fast... just the same thing over and over (you can memorize where enemies hang out in the level). Even with silencers on, enemies know exactly where you are and pour out of the level to find you, even if they were a mile away... which is my only major complaint about the Terrorist Hunt mode. And that's where the game ends. There's little to no replay value for me... I would love to spend time unlocking weapons and armors for my character, but I would have liked to see other modes of play besides "clear the map of bad guys". Maybe some bomb defusals, search and destroy, that sort of thing. Overall, a decent game that did some things better than other games, but failed to bring any elements of play to the table that would keep me coming back for more.Read full review
Gameplay: 9.0 The gameplay elements aren’t too hugely different from last year’s game, but still hold up quite nicely, and the new moves are implemented well and important to the gameplay. Graphics: 9.0 As an Unreal Engine 3 game, Vegas 2 doesn’t look too shabby. The environments are well-rendered and feature some amazing lighting effects, and the character models look very good. Sound: 9.0 Great voice acting, sharp effects, and a great score line this one out. Difficulty: Medium Concept: 9.0 While the gameplay isn’t too terribly different from the original Vegas, the story elements wrap up the saga very well, making it a compelling mission to undertake. Multiplayer: 9.0 The multiplayer elements include some new competitive modes, co-op and a leveling system that carries over to the single-player mode. Overall: 9.0 Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 doesn’t strive to reinvent the franchise, and works mostly as a means of finishing off the story that began in the first game. However, there are plenty of new features and game modes to keep series fans interested.Read full review
The AI payers through campaign are really dumb and hard to use, but the terrorists are geniuses. they will pop around corners and kill you in an instant! Online is nothing compared to COD4 and many other games, but it is alright. Beat the campaign in two days on normal and working on realistic difficulty. Is it worth the $60? If you are bored with your current games then yes, but if older games still interest you, wait to grab this one on sale.
This game was very fun to play. Counter Strike used to be my favorite game, and this is very similar. I love how this game uses more tactics than other FPS games. You can hug walls, blind fire around corners, rapel down ropes, and do so many fun things. The artificial intelligence built into the computer players in this game is awesome. The game is dynamic so if you play it multiple times, the bad guys are in different locations with different guns. Online play is great as well. There's a huge following for this game, even though it's years past it's release date. I highly recommend this game to anyone that is into FPS games!
The graphics as well of the story line has most definitely stepped up since the first Rainbow Six III: Vegas. The terrorists are a quite bit smarter and have capabilities of carrying shields, using night/thermal vision, etc. Plus, the kind of fun keychain and bonus content from the Frag-Dolls and extra maps make this game one of my favorites since it came out.
