Now, 4 allotments, 4 goats, 100 chickens, 1 giant polytunnel and various fruit and veg including a record breaking marrow later, the Woolnough's have seen it all. The 42' polytunnel under siege to all the foxes and squirrels - did you know that Mr Fox can shimmy up the side of a polytunnel? The horned, with attitude, nanny goats that had more in common with Steve McQueen in their very own version of The Great Escape ; not so much intent on getting over the German border but the border into the next allotment where they proceeded to eat with great gusto all the veg so thoughtfully laid out for them! The recycling of, now grown up, children's toys - stuffed animals make great scarecrows don't you know, the fine tuning of that weapon of mass destruction - the catapult - that makes squirrels and crows think twice before perching on the apple trees...oh then there's the unforeseen exercise gained from fighting off a testosterone filled cockerel. This book will not only give birth to a new acronym - MAD - a Middle Aged Downshifter but will strike a chord with the 5 million or so considering going MAD themselves, providing plenty of been there, done it advice as well laughs.
