Deliberately slow moving,brilliant characterisation, very funny.
This was a popular series when it first came out on T.V and it remains very funny today. Could anyone really be as obnoxious as Jim? Could anyone be as idle as Denise? Or be as put upon as Barb? Underneath it all runs a thread of a family united in their own way.

They Don't Make TV Like this Anymore (Sadly!)
The Royle Family is British comedy at it's very best. Why the BBC don't show any of the classic series again is beyond me. Bought this as Virgin TV Choice on Demand only had Series 1 and some of Series 3. So decided to buy the whole lot, and we sat and watched them all through the weekend after they came. And the entertainment was tons better than the weekend viewing on the main stations. Despite seeing most episodes before, still laughed out loud at times. Definitely a great stocking filler - maybe especially for men (who always seem harder to choose for!).The Royle Family is British comedy at it's very best. Who would have thought that watching a quite dysfunctional working class family sitting on a tatty sofa watching the television would make for such a brilliant/funny series. Caroline Aherne,and Craig Cash - prove what outstanding writers they are, and show that you don't need to have a wild budget or computer generated nonsense to create a classic that I'm sure future generations for years to come will want to watch.Who would have thought that watching a quite dysfunctional working class family sitting on a tatty sofa watching the television would make for such a brilliant/funny series.
