Felting has come a long way since this book was written, Save your money.
I purchased this book because of the cover photo of an unusual tea cozy. Unfortunately this item is the only one in the book that was even worth a look-see. This is a book of fundamentals, and felting has come a long way since 2005. There are many, many other publications (and free information on the Internet) that deal not just with this level of felting, but more progressive, innovative, and fun ways to felt and make interesting crafts. I was surprised at the size of the book; a mere 5.5 inches by 7.25 inches, but I guess that is where they get the on the go in the title. You can certain carry this in your jacket pocket. If you are a beginner, you might like this book, but I am not, so I did not care much for it.I purchased this book because of the cover photo of an unusual tea cozy. The Little Book on Felting that Could
I decided to add to my own personal library of fibercrafts as I often do, toggling between what looks good at the bookstore, what is reviewed on Amazon, and what is almost a necessity since I have ripped apart Mom's career dress "castoffs" long ago when fiber/material and the potential to create first entered my young life. I was hooked on dying wool when still in junior high (my Native American grandmother on father's side dressed to the nines and dyed wool, she and my aunt had "home jobs" in the 40's and 50's sewing for the likes of Vogue and essentially churned out Ginny Doll dresses and accessories. I come from a line, therefore, of women who had their hands on a machine or in a dyebath. "You are going to Design School" said my young mother when I appeared to not have any goals or ... I decided to add to my own personal library of fibercrafts as I often do, toggling between what looks good at the bookstore, what is reviewed on Amazon, and what is almost a necessity since I have ripped apart Mom's career dress "castoffs" long ago when fiber/material and the potential to create first entered my young life. Nothing made me happier than to idle away hours looking at Interior Design magazines, imagining my own future projects in an apartment or home of my own. In the meanwhile, while still in grade school I covertly ripped Mother's unwanted career clothing stored in a cardboard wardrobe and recreated the dress into a 3 pc ensemble all without a pattern. I didn't need Design School, I now know. I just need books. Inspiration. The rest is easy. All books on art or creativity offer something hopeful to a creative person. Not many measure up. Long ago, I learned to take the best from all books and simply ignore those patterns or ideas that don't suit me or my "style". Yet I never discard magazines and books that offer an opportunity to see something in a new and different perspective as tastes change. And so do mine. Now, instead of dying wool for clothing, I am whistling away in my "fiber studio" and adjoining kitchen, felting men's and ladies unwanted jackets, coats and dresses; it feels good to throw them into the hot water we are all told not to use on wool, the wrath of God be upon you if you "ruin" that sweater no longer hanging over my head, I enjoy immensely the prospect of opening the dryer and pulling out a wooly soft garment I envision as a purse. With felted roses along the top. Or a gorgeous wool sweater hacked up and made into a round hobo style handbag with a Bakelite button sitting proudly out in front. This little book offers something for everyone. There are ideas I may never get to, the Tea Cozy on the cover is a whimsical piece that suckers you into the warmth of Felting. Some day, saving this book as I do all of the magazine articles and creative ideas, I may just decide this is "just the thing" for cousin Janey who drinks hot teas year round like I drink juice. Right now, I am learning to knit something felted since I couldn't master it as a girl; while I may not make the Amphibian looking slippers for my granddaughter (3 toes, who has 3??) and may never get good enough to tackle the Fair Isle Hat (my Mom could whip that out while dancing, I know), I will definitely consider the autumnal "tweedy" Bucket Bag and will bring this to my beginning knitting class. If I prove good enough, the Adult Slippers look inviting. This is a good book for both beginners and more advanced knitters and felters. It is a keeper. And I like the cover. Even if I never do the colorful Tea Cozy, it cheers me. And it promises magic. That's what its all about. For me.

Vogue knitting Felting
This is my favorite of all my felting books. It has the most useful, practical projects presented in easy to understand language. I am pretty new at felting and this book takes the fear out of it.
