Reviews
"A Tragic Record of Turmoil Set to Towering Pop Blasts; an Emotive Hurricane Is Upon Us.", "They mix soaring string sections, but add a punch of jangly guitars....Lead singer Mikel Jollett's rumbling baritone colors these buoyant melodies with a tinge of sorrow...", 3 stars out of 5 -- "On 'Innocence,' a gorgeous viola intro gives way to ecstatic new-wave-ish keyboards, and the rousing 'Sometime Around Midnight' makes late-night pining sound positively heroic.", 4 stars out of 5 -- "With opener 'Wishing Well,' the lustful 'Gasoline' and 'Something New''s confused relationship tracing a historical line from The Strokes to The Killers...", "The album is enthralled with guitar noise....It's also sewn through with an endearing passion that screams of potential."

  • The Airborne Toxic Event - Watch out for this band

I've been blown away by this band who are making small waves in the US and am astonished that nobody seems to have heard of them over here in the UK. The sound is indie rock, lots of guitar, bass and viola. The catchy bass line and guitar solos, deep voice of Mikel (a certain strokes sound to it) and the beautiful lyrics all contribute to this album which has not been off my ipod since it came out earlier this week. Sometime around midnight is beautiful, with fantastic strings contributing to the sound, gasoline is a sure favourite, wishing well too. I can go on and on about it...just listen yourself though. Who does it sound like? Well, there's a certain killers sound, the strokes, the fratellis, franz ferdinand, but overall the sound is put together in a way that shows that this band ...

  • Good debut

This band deserve far more credit for this strong debut than to be labelled as a second rate Arcade Fire, a brickbat thrown at them by most critics. Although the comparisons are obvious, and if you listen closely you will also hear stumble and fall era Razorlite, this band have enough substance to stand out on their own. If the lyrics are anything to go by on, standout track, sometime around midnight i think my chances of bumping into this band in a pub are slim to say the least.I am afraid one does not frequent such establishments where "the piano is this melancholy soundtrack to her smile"(what the f£%*),and i have never been "helpless and hopeless and lost in the haze of the wine", not me mate although i have been slightly mashed on Stella a few times. The,at times, pretentious lyrics ...
