About this product

Product Information

The legendary precursor to The Lord of the Rings "A creation of singular beauty . . . magnificent in its best moments."-- The Washington Post Set primarily in the First Age of Middle-earth, The Silmarillion contains the legend of the creation of the world and an account of the Elder Days. It is the ancient drama remembered by Elrond and Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, and the harrowing origin of the adventure that ends ages later with Frodo and the One Ring. At the story's heart are the three Silmarils, jewels that held within them the Light of the Two Trees of Valinor, and Fëanor, the most gifted of elven artificers. When the Two Trees are destroyed, the Silmarils become coveted, setting into motion events that lead to the rebellion of Fëanor and his kindred against the gods, their exile from Valinor, and their hopeless war against the greatest enemy Middle-earth has ever known: Morgoth.

    BEST BOOK

I'm only about 9 chapters in. This book has immaculate writing. The idea that this book is somehow boring or dry and unfulfilling is the worst sort of opinion to have, but considering the content of The Silmarillion it is not just a bad opinion. It's also wrong. This literary work is fashionably inspiring and simply illuminating. I am so pleased reading this in my free time.

  • Amazing story in an amazing world

Like most fans of "The Lord of the Rings" I enjoyed the movies and books but wanted more from the story. There are so many questions that are left unanswered, who, where, why? This book tells the tale of the entire universe of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" every legend and detail is throughly set out in a beautiful way. This is a semi difficult read because of the language but if you have the interest in time this is a must for any fan. This book is not about The Lord of the Rings...The Lord of the Rings is about everything to do with this book!

  • Great LOTR history.

My daughter is a huge LOTR fan and this book gives background history of Middle Earth. A tougher read than LOTR, but rewarding for the dedicated Tolkien fan.
