For fans of Iza Trapani, this book does not disappoint. Colorful, cute illustrations accompany this popular children's melody that reminds us of the childhood need for a warm, cuddly pet...especially for a warm and giving youngster. The young boy, who is at the center of this book, spies the proverbial doggie in the window, but realizes that the doggie costs much more than the boy has in hand. He vows to raise the money and come back and purchase the dog within the week. During that week, however, a number of mishaps befall each of his family members. From goodwill and good nature, the boy uses his stash of cash to purchase items to remedy each of his family member's ills. This book is a great one to help develop empathy and the idea of "works of mercy" in a young child. Its message becomes doubly rooted in the musically inclined child if the reader can also sing the words with the melody provided in the back of the book.Read full review
