About this product

Product Information

The Zuni have traditionally used small stone carvings of animal figures as power objects and mediators between themselves and the spirit world. Any object that has special meaning can be used as a fetish. In this fascinating, informative, and beautifully illustrated guide to the fetishes of the Zuni people of New Mexico, Hal Zina Bennett explores key principles of Native American spirituality and how early Zuni teachings can benefit us all today. He provides an excellent guide to Zuni traditions and an intriguing picture of their early life, along with detailed instructions for using fetishes for mediation, reflection, and insight in modern life. He describes key fetish figures, including the Guardian of the Six Regions, their legendary meanings, and the personal qualities each figure can support and help its owner develop. In explaining the nature of fetishes and the psychological and spiritual benefits that we can gain from their use, Bennett provides illuminating cross-cultural comparisons, stimulating exercises, and journaling opportunities.

  • NATIVE AMERICAN INSIGHT

A great guide and informational study of fetishes and specifically, the Zuni fetishes of the Zuni people of New Mexico. Zuni teachings can provide benefits for everyone in today's modern world. They can help one gain insight while letting one reflex. The spiritual ties involved are fulling to an outsider, newbie or Native American. Meditation and reflection can find many varied results when used with the fetishes. The author, Hal Zina Bennett describes key fetish figures, their meaning and personal qualities that each can support and help it's owner develop and possibly master. This book is a real gem and anyone with interest or desire for knowledge and for gaining inner peace will love and cherish this book. It has been on my shelf for years. • Interesting and informative

I visited the Zuni pueblo in October and became interested in their fetishes. This book gives a great explanation of their history and use,but especially how we can use them today. I have since had a Zuni Indian carve 6 for me (the 6 directions) and enjoy using them as the book indicates.."for meditation, reflection and insight."

  • Fetish Carvings!

For many years I have collected indian jewelry. I have been fascinated by the carvings of animals that the Zuni Indians make out of different stones. I purchased this book to educate myself on fetish meanings for their animals. This book is one of the best on the subject, I highly recommend.

  • Beautiful!

Outstanding detail, terrific detail and a handsome addition to my collection. Yu can feel the Raven's power every time you look at him!
