About this product

Product Information

Bernard Black (Dylan Moran) hates his job, his life, and his friends. In fact, there's not much Bernard doesn't hate, except for a glass of red wine and the chance to torment his coworker Mani (Bill Bailey). Bernard runs Black Books, a dusty secondhand bookstore whose customers he loathes; Mani is employed in the first episode to help Bernard rid himself of the interminable duties that clutter up his day. Fran (Tamsyn Grieg) works in a New Age shop next door and frequently pops in for a glass of wine and a chat. This release presents every episode from the three series' of the show, with 18 half-hour episodes that deserve to rub shoulders with the very best U.K. sitcoms to have emerged over the years.

    Total madness of "Black Books!"

    This may not be the best British comedy TV show I have ever seen but it sure ranks among the best! I don't see how anyone like Bernard Black could make a go of such a messed up used book store as Black Books. He has no interest in selling books and he hates customers. And he treats poor Mani like dirt! Then there is their friend Fran who is the most mixed up woman I have seen in a long time. Combine them all together and you have total madness-isn't it great? Watch all 18 episodes and laugh yourself silly. Then do it all over again!

    Wicked good fun!

    This is a gift, but I also own a set and love the series. Definitely NOT a Barnes and Noble bookshop experience! Bernard loves his books, but hates his customers. If you've ever worked retail, you'll appreciate the acerbic Bernard.

    It just thrills me.

    A friend of mine told me I needed to watch this show. He showed me just the first episode, and I was hooked. There's something about the humor in the dialogue and acting that appeals to me. It seems to fit. It's hard for me to explain. There's pretty much nothing about the show that I don't enjoy completely. I've watched some of Bill Bailey's comedy on the internet, and he's very enjoyable. His character Manny is so nice, and "calm", it's the perfect balance to Bernard's sort of "bad guy"... It makes sense to me. And I'm so glad I found the series on Region 1 DVD's.
