This lens is capable of really sharp images, the focus can grt caught out sometimes, sometimes down to my error I think, ive had the lens for a month now and I am very pleased with the results. I have upgrsded from a panasonic fz1000 to a canon yd mk3, so thr quality should be and is much better in terms of sharpness and quality of image. I get a sharpness and overal quality I could not achieve with the panasonic, good thought the fx1000 is. Zooming in on a photograph still produced very clear and acceptably sharp images. It's the best in it's class, but has shortcomings the cheaper ones don't have
Very expensive for what it is, if you don't snap up a bargain second hand. I had to calibrate it to my camera as the auto focus was off at wide angles. Fortunately the Canon 6D allows you to micro adjust each lens you attach to get it tack sharp. I had the STM version of this lens at half the price and I have to say I was hard pushed to see the difference between them. It's only when you zoom in 100% you can tell and at certain apertures, the STM one is better, it's lighter and shorter (meaning at wide indoors you get more in the shot if you are up against a wall). I think L lenses have a reputation for being Pro, and it is, it has nice bokeh even at f4 but if you are on a budget, Canon's cheaper STM lenses come close enough if you are just a weekend hobbyist. One of the most practical lenses I’ve used

Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS lens
How can you rate an L lens as anything less than excellent? Well, call me picky but I'm disappointed that this lens isn't a huge improvement on the optical performance of the Canon EF 28-135mm IS, but more than this, I'm amazed at the barrel distortion at 24mm. It is correctable using PSPro or (with a little more effort) Photoshop, and perhaps I'm expecting too much, even of an L lens! That said, the build quality and "Rolls-Royce" feel is what you're paying for, and in this respect it doesn't disappoint at all. The zoom ring is silky smooth, and AF is as silent and fast as you could want. It just feels like quality, and is - in this area - a quantum leap from the 28-135 IS. Optically it is noticeably more contrasty than the 28-135, so that's a good thing, and as you'd expect having ... How can you rate an L lens as anything less than excellent? So don't expect a huge difference in the sharpness of your shots if you trade up from the 28-135 IS. What you get for your money is pleasure! This is just a nice lens to hold and use, and one which will continue to please for a long long time. It does have its shortcomings, unlike for example the 100-400 L which, used carefully, produces absolutely stunningly sharp images that just glow, somehow. Despite the shortcomings though, it's still a lens I would recommend over the 28-135 IS. The difference between 24mm and 28mm is a very useful one, and well worth the trade-off at the other end of the zoom range. If you are struggling with the dilemma of swapping your 28-135 IS for the 24-105 L (as I did), I'd say that if you can afford to make the swap, then do it - you may not see a vast improvement in IQ, but you will thoroughly enjoy taking pictures with the 24-105. And it will hold its value very well too, always nice to know when times get hard! Nine years on, and a mark 2 version of this lens has been released. Having read the in-depth reviews of the new lens, I can see that some improvements have been made (it's slightly sharper and the IS is better) but the price seems to have almost doubled. On a whim a few years ago, I sold my 24-105 to get a 24-70 f2.8 L, and actually regretted doing so. Okay, the barrel distortion at the 24mm end was less, but I really missed the bit from 70mm to 105mm. I made the decision to sell the 24-70, and bought another (new, white box) 24-105 - the mark 1 version. The reviews I've read of the mark 2 didn't indicate to me that the improvements justified the huge jump in the price. I reckoned therefore that £500 for a brand new mark 1 lens was, on balance, a bargain. I'm very happy with the 24-105!

The all round go to L lens
This lens offers a great balance between versatility and reliability, the lens although a little on the weighty side consistently grabs sharp focus and clear images across the range. Once you push the aperture to its most closed off range however you will start seeing a degradation, but nothing major. my 24-105 L pretty much travels with me on all of my travels and jobs, it may not get used all of the time as I do prefer prime lenses, however it is a great lens to be able to rely on should anything go wrong. When I am out travelling this rarely comes off the camera unless I am looking for a very specific shot. On a side note, the build quality (although generally fantastic) is not perfect, with a little age on it I have noticed now that gravity will cause the lens to zoom as the resistance ...
