First I heard "So alive", and I knew I'll become a fan of Ryan. Later, he got me even hooked on country and pedal steel guitar! But this album is still one of my favorites! I love it because of it's energy, great musical production, most-awesome guitars EVER - sometimes rocking real hard, sometimes echoed and bended by tremolo arm like falling drunk on bed and/or extra energy banishment... they were ultra-inspiring for me and still are! It's modern and yet it's classic rock 'n' roll. "Boys", "Drugs not working", "Burning photographs", "Note to self: don't die", "Do Miss America", " Anybody wanna take me home"... 12 awesome songs and maybe 1 or 2 that's not so great - for me it's the best (recent) rock album. I sharp my edge with it when I go out! I decided to buy it, as mp3 I downloaded doesn't have that loudness and sharpness and kills energy! (I had CD, "somebody" stole it, downloaded mp3, but it didn't work as well as CD). Get it!Read full review

After having got into Ryan Adams via Gold, I next heard his album Rock 'n' Roll and loved it, it's raw, fast paced and full of energy. Many RA fans don't like this album and im not sure why... maybe they just prefer the dark and quieter side to his material. Nevertheless I recommend this album 110% to everyone, some great tracks like This Is It, Wish You Were Here, So Alive & Anybody Wanna Take Me Home.
Being curious about the hype surrounding Ryan Adams I thought I'd give his music a go. Starting with Heartbreaker his first solo effort, Heartbreaker is firmly rooted in country/Folk styling's with a touch of rock thrown in. If you're a Ryan Adams fan and own more than one of his albums you'll have noticed no two are similar, with Rock 'n' Roll you get exactly what it says on the box. Excellent riff's superb vocals and lyrics that touch genius and will have you thinking "damn I knew a girl just like that" If you're interested in Ryan Adams this is a good place to start as it's more accessible than his earlier work. My personal fave's are Wish you were, Anybody wanna take me home and Boys. If you give this cd a chance you'll love it, it plays like a greatest hits. Highly recommended.
This album positioned itself smack in the middle of my tastes, but once I was safely in the trust of Ryan Adams, I was gently pulled out of my comfort zone, into a brave new world, (for me) of great alt-country songs.
