Four years after the release of Need for Speed III: Hot Pursuit for the PC and PS, Hot Pursuit 2 looks to thrill PS2, GameCube, and Xbox drivers with its arcade-style racing. More than a dozen courses are featured, each with varying weather conditions, such as blizzards, hurricanes, and tornadoes. Over 20 licensed vehicles will be hitting the streets, from such automobile manufacturers as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche. The main goal is to become the "Ultimate Road Racer" in the game's career mode. As players progress they will receive rewards that include new cars, tracks, modes of play, and car upgrades.
I bought this game without really knowing how easy or hard it would be to play. The game itself has great graphics and also some cool sounds. The sounds tend to get repetative. This game performs as expected and is fun to play. The only downside is that the game does not respond as well to the handheld controller as well as I would hope. If you move a little to the left or right it tends to drift to far. You then get into a position where you are trying to correct the oversteering and that creates more problems. I have an 11 year old son and a 8 year old son. Neither of them enjoy this game because of this problem. I play this game more than they do. Other than this problem, which can be significant at times, it is generally a good game.
I have had this game for 2 and 1/2 years now and I am still not bored with it.
It has enough variety and challenges built into it to keep me playing it time after time. You can race another player, race against computer generated components, outrun the cops or be a cop chasing speeders. There are many different challenging tracks and very realistic cars to qualify for. The graphics and driving feel are great. You don't have to (and can't) set up the cars. You don't have to win money to get better cars. You just work your way through the championship and as your skills improve and you learn the tracks you get to race faster cars. As you progress through it the tracks keep growing bigger and more complex. You will recognize sections of tracks from previous tracks and some tracks will be reversed so that you are running them in the opposite direction. Don't bother with cheat codes or you will wind up on a track you don't know, with a car you can't handle. Take the time to work your your way through the championship and you will be rewarded with bonus races and cars. There are no maps to navigate, no characters to listen to, no confusing set ups to deal with and no money to earn. Just turn it on, pick a race style, pick a car and pick a track and RACE! I love this game! No B.S. just racing! There are many shortcuts in all the tracks for you to find.
Some will help you and some will not. It is up to you to decide which ones to use. There also is a way to race against other people online but, I have not tried that yet. This is a great game that will probably take you months to master and get all the way through everything and if you make it, you will have 49 different race cars, 5 different cop cars and many different tracks you can run on at any time. Outrunning the cops is the most challenging and exciting way to race! You can hear the cops talking to each other and the dispatcher. Your radar detector will go off when you approach a cop and if you slow down to about 55 mph and stay in your lane and don't do anything to draw their attention they will not bother you unless they are already looking for you. But where's the fun in that??? It is more fun to blow by the cop at high speed and hear the cop say to the dispatcher "I'm chasing a speeder who just flew by me and BLEW MY DOORS IN!" the chatter between the cops and the dispatcher is entertaining and even helpful at times. The cops will set up road blocks and spike chains and call in a helicopter that drops big bouncing bombs in the road that will explode if you hit them. In the upper stages when you get to faster cars the helicopter can even fire heat seeking missiles at you, that are just about impossible to dodge! Every car in this game has different handling characteristics and you must employ different driving styles to win with every car. Some cars are so powerful that you will have to blip the throttle just to get going or you will just spin the tires. This GAME is amazing! If this sounds good to you, then buy it and you won't be dissapointed.Read full review
This product represents the pinnacle of GameCube game development for driving games. Amazing graphics and game play collide with highly personal and interactive single player modes against the AI based Police Cruiser and other drivers at the same time as allowing for head to head competition. The fast pace of game play as well as the level of skill required make an engrossing game endearing - but more importantly - the game maintains is playability over long periods of time. This is one of the few games that you will want to play over and over, never feeling like you have "finished" it, and isn't that what a "great" game is really about?
Since the Game Cube and this title are both getting rarer - this is one to grab now and play on your Wii (Yes the Wii plays all your Game Cube games)
I first play this game trough a friend who let me borrow it a wile. Then I liked it and I also bought it. I really enjoy this car game (and I'm NOT a car game fan). What I like most is being able to also play as Cops, AND the best part is being able to command or order Helicopters to help you bust your enemy. Its awesome. I still like it a lot even being from the 2002. I still haven't bated the whole game, so that's why I wont say IF there's anything about the game I didn't like. For now I like it very mush even though its not perfect, it has enough for me to have a lot of fun.
Game came a day earlier than predicted and had everything included listed in the description. There were some scratches on the disk that weren’t visible in the picture or listed in the description, but I’ve played it and it works great. Very happy!
