Bought to fill fireplace where old gas fire had been. Overall dimensions are larger than many inset fires, so it covers the old screw holes etc. perfectly. Only challenge with installation was routing the power cable without destroying the fire surround. It's an attractive fire, and gives a modern look to a traditional fireplace. As for value, I considered paying double for a fire with water vapour mist effect, having been impressed by my neighbours. However, the designs appear to have gone backwards on these, instead of easily refillable water trays you now have to remove the coal bed to put water in and the ultrasonic transducers need regular replacement. So, I settled on the cheaper 'flame effect' models, and chose this fire largely due to it being the dimensions I needed and heavily reduced. The flame effect isn't realistic, but is pleasant and probably at least as good as flame effect fires from other manufacturers. The RRP is utterly ludicrous for what is basically a £25 fan heater in a pretty surround, and you can get similar fires from cheaper manufacturers but I have found parts availability quite good from Dimplex.Read full review
