About this product

Product Information

So begins O.J.: The Last Word, the brilliant work by Gerry Spence, author of the bestselling The Making of a Country Lawyer and How To Argue and Win Every Time. Gerry Spence, who provided expert legal commentary throughout the affair, insists that the celebrated case demonstrates a great deal about the failings of our society and our corrupt legal system. Given the passage of three years since the murders, and the proliferation of thousands of articles, books, and TV shows, Spence believes that only now has enough time elapsed for him to write the one book that will become the last word on O.J.Subjects discussed in this extraordinary narrative include: -- The fact that O.J. was indeed personally guilty and escaped justice-- Spence's belief that the criminal jury acted correctly, and had a duty to declare O.J. not guilty-- A detailed portrayal of prosecutors Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden-- How Spence, had he agreed to handle the case, would have tried the case otherwiseSpence's authoritative and provocative book concludes that American lawyers must be substantially retrained. This book will be talked about for years to come.

  • The Wisdom of Twelve

Ok, the O.J. Simpson trial has faded into the distant 1990s past, but any book (even an old book) is like a new book when read for the first time. Spence writes with clarity and hits on the most significant details of the trial. Despite the magnitude of the original publicity of the trial, I still learned a few new facts from Spence's book. In the end, he gives the jury credit for a "correct" verdict (though not necessarily a popular verdict). After the circus of the trial he retained his belief in the wisdom of the jury, though he had less favorable words to say about judges and lawyers. It is a wonderful overview of the American legal system as it functioned in the 1990s. We can only hope that lessons have been learned and that the errors made during the investigation and trial ...

  • great book

Gerry Spence is a great teacher of law and a great lawyer. I just bought his book so I cannot make a proper comment. If you thought Johnny Cochran was great, give Gerry Spence a X2 for his intelligence and wit. I won't buy Vincent Bugliosi book, he is full of himself becasuse he convicted the manson bastards, that case was a breeze, but after the trial he had his own legal problems. So, if you want to get a book you cannot put down, get this book.

  • The O.J. Trial A Different Slant

Gerry Spence is one of America's most accomplished story tellers, and that shows in this one of a kind "O.J." book. Spence was the media commentator and other than one frustrated outburst, sat quietly through the entire trial. There was so much media hype surrounding this case that I totally ignored it, knowing full well that sensationalism rather than truth was being broadcast. Like all of Gerry's books, this one is riveting, objective and told in a way that keeps you turning pages. On a scale of one to five, I give it an 8.
