    Gentle Giant - Octopus

    My interest in Gentle Giant was recently rekindled through the emergence of a reincarnation of the band, called 'Three Friends' who feature 3 of the original members in their lineup. Though I have the albums on vinyl, I thought it would be nice to get them in a modern format. The music itself exemplifies the best qualities of prog rock, with a bit of jazz, folk, & other traditional music mixed in. Time signatures in some songs are constantly changing, making the music complicated but interesting to listen to, while other tracks hark back to ancient times with a madrigal quality... This is strange & beautiful music, & though some tracks are very much of their time, others still sound fresh & exciting after 30-odd years. If you're unfamiliar with this band, I'd recommend giving this ...

    Gentle Giant- Octopus

    If you like clever 'Art School' progressive rock music and lyrics (for instance, Genesis) then this a very good album to introduce you to the 70's group from Portsmouth. There is a good mixture of musical styles (a definite folk influence in more than one track, and a medieval, madrigal style in others) contrasting vocal themes and thought-provoking lyrics
