About this product

Product Information

Building upon 2002's Deadly Alliance, the series' well-received leap to the 128-bit 3D arena, Mortal Kombat: Deception demonstrates the same depth in design and focus on the home console experience. The game offers five main modes of play, some of which will be familiar to fans of Deadly Alliance. The arcade-style Kombat mode has players fighting their way up a ladder of matches against increasingly difficult opponents, and Konquest leads them through role-playing-styled character development in a story-lined adventure full of fights and other events. Also available are Kombat Chess, which lets players choose a team of fighters and challenges them to select matches strategically, and Puzzle Kombat, a color-matching action puzzle reminiscent of Capcom's Super Puzzle Fighter, featuring cute, anime-styled versions of the game's otherwise dark and daunting kombatants. Although it does not offer the online play supported by the PS2 and Xbox editions, GameCube's Mortal Kombat: Deception includes its own exclusive extras. Two of the most dreaded characters from the earliest Mortal Kombat games, the four-armed Goro and the hammer-wielding Shao Kahn, are both playable in this version of Deception.

There are 20 Mortal Kombat fighters selectable at the start of the game, including both old favorites and mysterious newcomers. Longtime fans of the series will recognize other veterans of early Mortal Kombat games, such as Sub-Zero and Scorpion, Kabal, Baraka, Mileena, Ermac, and Nightwolf, who are joined by relative newcomers like Bo'Rai Cho, who debuted in Deadly Alliance. Deception also introduces four new fighters, Ashrah, Dairou, Darrius, and Kobra, each with a distinctly new fighting style intended to balance the deadly abilities of the other characters. At least a dozen more characters can be unlocked through the course of the game, by spending "Koins" to open the correct "koffins" in the "Krypt," or by completing certain key challenges in the Konquest adventure mode. In addition to its character selection, Mortal Kombat: Deception draws on the series' storied roots in other ways; development of the game was lead by Ed Boon, co-creator of the original Mortal Kombat.

Although Deception's fighting mechanics are also based on those of Deadly Alliance, a number of enhancements, adjustments, and embellishments have been made. In some instances, the gameplay may have a slightly more intense, exaggerated feel that rewards those who master the complex combo system. Characters can still take different stances, however, and can choose to fight unarmed or with a weapon. Deception features "Fight State Indicators" on the ends of the characters' health bars that make it a little easer for players to anticipate particular dangers and time their special attacks. While it may seem these indicators would take the challenge down a notch, their addition is actually quite opportune, since Deception also adds a diverse selection of interactive arenas, many with instant-kill "death trap" elements, as well as two fatalities for each and every character -- answering the most common complaints that fans had of Deadly Alliance.

I'm not waiting a week to tell you that I am never ordering from this vendor again. Zero customer service, when I try to contact its not delivered. I appreciate the fact the game came quickly however the game though described as "very good" in condition didn't run in my Xbox and no matter what I did it will not read it. It's only 3 dollars but if it is advertised as very good then it should be so. Safe to say I am very disappointed in this vendor and the product that I payed for.

This item came lightning fast and bundled with another item. Shipping cost were phenomenal and was packaged very well. The condition seemed to exceed the description so these folks are truly honest. Very friendly with great communication. This seller is worthy of my business again.

A good price for a cool PSP game, shipped promptly and packaged well. However, the UMD shell arrived cracked so the item wasn't exactly in good condition. The disc itself was fine. Rather than return the item, the seller offered a refund directly. I used the refund to buy some replacement UMD shells and got it working. The replacement UMD shells cost about as much as the item itself. But the seller did the right thing without hesitation, so they have my thanks. Thank you!

  • Mortal Kombat: Deception : Awesome

What an awesome game! I really was happy with this edition of Mortal Kombat. It brings back alot of memories from the original mortal kombat series, and of course is bloodier than ever. The fatalities really are sick on this one, and so are the hara kiri, which is a suicide move that the opponent can perform when defeated. The platform fatalities and the "traps" are pretty cool, however it can feel like pretty cheap sometimes when your winning the match and than just happened to get pushed into a trap. Mini games are sweet, the puzzle kombat is addicting, my girlfriend won't stop playing it. Chess kombat is ok, and The RPG is pretty lame, not worth clearing off all 58 slots on your memory card. But overall if you are stuck in gamecube land like i am this is one of the best fighting games ...

  • Reconsider who you give this too.

If you have a child that you allow to play rated M games be warned that there is a lot of blood like the rating states but also the player can make the character punch, kick, slap and use weapons on elderly folk, women and children. Make sure your child is old enough to understand the difference between real life and video games before you let him or her play. Recommended for 17 and up.

  • Mortal Kombat: Deception is great fun!

Wow, this game is one of the best MK games to ever hit the consoles. The gamecube version is better than all the other versions. Why? As a little bonus for not releasing this version with the other console versions, Midway decided to throw in Goro and Shao Khan...as playable characters! Read my Review of the XBOX MK:D to know about the gameplay mechanics, because the gamecube is the same. The one thing i will say is it is easier to do the moves on the gamecube controller and that makes the game a little more enjoyable!

  • Amazing even for non MK fans!

I have already played MK Deadly Alliance and MK Deception is as good as its predecessor. The fatalities and stages are increased. The conquest mode is really fun to play and explore the different realms with Shujinko who is unlocked after completing the main quest. More characters to play, Stages have traps which can be used at player's advantage. Puzzle & Chess games are a nice addition too. I miss the old test-games between the fights but overall it is a great game to play and master. It gets pretty tough to beat if difficulty is increased. Buy it!
