Eine hoher Grad an Fehlzeiten verursacht fur ein Unternehmen nicht nur Kosten, sondern kann auch innerbetriebliche Konflikte im Kollegen-, Vorgesetzten- oder Organisationsleitungskreis hervorrufen. Ein daraus resultierendes schlechtes Betriebsklima wird neben geringerer Arbeitsproduktivitat auch noch zu sinkender Arbeitsmotivation fuhren, was wiederum einen Beschaftigten dazu veranlassen koennte, statt zur Arbeit zu gehen im Hause zu bleiben und sich krank zu melden. Betrachtet man die Entwicklung des Krankenstandes in Deutschland in den Jahren seit ca. 1990, erkennt man einen steten Ruckgang der Zahlen, was sicher nicht nur damit zu begrunden ist, dass die Bevoelkerung seltener erkrankt oder von verbesserter medizinischer Versorgung profitiert. Insofern ist es interessant, die Grunde, die Individuen haben und Einflussfaktoren, die auf sie wirken, naher zu betrachten. In dieser Arbeit soll zunachst der Begriff Fehlzeiten definiert und naher umschrieben und weitere moegliche Folgen in Betrieben bzw. fur Betriebe aufgezeigt werden. Einem UEberblick uber die Auspragung der Hoehe und Entwicklung des Krankenstandes schliesst sich die Unterscheidung zwischen krankheitsbedingten und motivationsbedingten Fehlzeiten an. Anschliessend werden Faktoren genannt, die die Hoehe von Fehlzeiten beeinflussen koennen. In dem Hauptteil meiner Arbeit sollen nun ausgewahlte Theorien naher erlautert werden, um so verschiedene Grunde und Erklarungen fur Fehlzeiten zu finden. Dabei soll das Anwesenheitsmodell nach Steers und Rhodes als Einstieg zum ersten UEberblick der Einflussfaktoren hilfreich sein.
