it's ok, although I remember some things differently
'Battle of the planets'was my favourite cartoon when I was a kid. That's why I bought it now - to refresh my childhood memories. I can't say that I was dissapointed, but a child perceives some things differently than an adult and in fact now I could see some weak points in the plot of the episodes and stuff like that. I also have an impression that this version is too much censored... But anyway I was happy to see it again. If you liked the series as a kid you would probably be glad to see it again. aleksandralm'Battle of the planets'was my favourite cartoon when I was a kid. I always wanted battle of the planets box set, but was not available in the USA. Great 70’s cartoon. All 85 episodes.

nostalgia in a nutshell if your 37 yrs or above.
Memories from the late 70s. G force Zoltar and Spectre based on an earlier Japanese cartoon called Gatchaman. Looks bit dated but a classic and will never be repeated.

Seemed better when i was a kid!
Sad to say Battle of The Planets hasn`t aged well. In memory it seems much better than it actually is now. I think part of the problem is that I`m older and unlike The Mysterious Cities Of Gold (the 80s cartoon against which all others are judged and found wanting), Transformers, He-Man and Dungeons & Dragons for example, it hasn`t stood the test of time very well, it does look like it`s stuck in the 1970s. I remember it seeming much betterwhen it was on telly when I was a kid than it does now on DVD. each episode seems to be just a series of largely unrelated battles against silly monsters created by SPECTRA (The musical mummy? The fearful sea anenome?)threatening Earth and is unintentionally funny at times as a result. R2-D2 clone 7-zark-7, too is a bit annoying, interrupting the story ... I used to just think he was fun, never noticing what he was suggesting, but now it seems about as subtle as the double entendres in a "Carry on..." film but as the bible says we see things through a glass darkly as adults or something like that! I seem to remember reading that he was only put in to replace and /or explain away some of the more violent scenes in the Japanese original, which was dubbed into English in the wake of Star Wars` success when tv companies were after anything in the sci-fi genre they could put on our screens. Still, it is not without merit and to be fair, can be fun to watch, but it`s a long slog to watch too many episodes at one time, as I have got a sense of deja vu after a while.

i remember watching this when i was young and it was fantastic. now its great to see again. i would recommend to anyone who was a child in the 80's.
