The original Muppet movie that brings back so many memories, watching the classic Muppet Show on TV. A lot of great cameos, terrific script writing and ground breaking special effects for it's time (pre CGI).

A magical kids movie adults will enjoy too! James Frawley’s road adventure-comedy The Muppet Movie (1979) is a silly journey to Hollywood with hopes of success for The Muppets’ routine. The Muppet Movie gleefully sends up musicals, road comedies, Westerns, romance dramas, and noir thrillers alike. I love how The Muppets continuously break the 4th wall referring directly to the script, the audience, the director, and the movie itself. There is so much magic here as family parables are surrounded by neat character motivations with desires both of success and romance all portrayed by puppets. Frawley’s direction is creative as he finds the most fun locations and scenarios for The Muppets to encounter endless celebrity cameos from Madeline Kahn to Orson Welles! Innovative direction keeps the audience laughing as Kermit will be playing his banjo realistically in his swamp, Kermit riding a bicycle with his full body in view, and Kermit talking to himself in a dream sequence. You get so many funny scenes of Gonzo flying away by balloons to Fozzy Bear desperately trying to pursue stand up comedy. Frawley is pretty impressive as he crafts a world for The Muppets to inhabit organically so that they feel real on screen like actors not puppets. Paul Williams’ score is a pleasant blend of classical and folk music that fits the late 1970’s era The Muppet Movie takes place in, while feeling timeless with how serene the tone is always. The Muppet Movie’s 97 run-time passes by like a gentle Summer breeze thanks to these charming tunes. Isidore Mankofsky’s cinematography is surprisingly lovely with the opening slow panning zoom in introducing Kermit The Frog singing his iconic ballad, “The Rainbow Connection,” all to wish goodwill toward men. I appreciate Christopher Greenbury’s psychedelic editing montage of Miss Piggy and Kermit falling in love or his trippy dream sequence wherein Kermit debates his consciousness. I can only say all of the puppeteering is the peak within The Muppet filmography debatably. Jim Henson and Frank Oz’ genius is apparent. Henson’s Muppets are a wonderful creation of childhood entertainment and adult delight alike. Their movements and voicework is impeccable, but their charm is also in how the characters all interact like real people just talking on screen. The way The Muppet Movie is filmed it’s neat that all the celebrity cameos act like they are really speaking to someone rather than a Muppet. I just cannot overstate how remarkable all the puppetry is for The Muppet Movie. You will just have to see it for yourself!Read full review

I loved this movie as a child and had to buy this anniversary edition for my granddaughter that's almost two and she loved it! Not much can keep her Attention for as long as this movie did. I wish the quality was better but hey it has been 35 years.

Great family movie of the muppets seen as a child and still has all the things that made it a great movie to see and laugh on. Great product. Glad I made the purchase.

I still love the film. My favorite scenes: 1. Animal growing large in the lab & 2. Kermit on the bicycle Has not lost its charm over the years. Wish all of the Muppet films were as good as the original. Now, here is what is wrong with this package. 1. Where is the DVD? Disney did NOT include a DVD, just the blu ray. Cheap, & do NOT care about fans. 2. Where are the extras? No Making Of specials, just nothing to care about. Yet, in another recent blu ray release Disney's "Oliver and Company" which was not successful had a DVD & a Making Of special. If you are a Muppet fan you will buy this but be prepared to be very disappointed with Disney being cheap without a DVD combo pack & no good extras.
In my opinion, the best muppet movie in the franchise.
