About this product
Product Information
In 1856 eighteen-year-old English chemist William Perkin accidentally discovered a way to mass-produce color. In a witty, erudite, and entertaining (Esquire) style, Simon Garfield explains how the experimental mishap that produced an odd shade of purple revolutionized fashion, as well as industrial applications of chemistry research. Occasionally honored in certain colleges and chemistry clubs, Perkin until now has been a forgotten man. By bringing Perkin into the open and documenting his life and work, Garfield has done a service to history. -Chicago Tribune [A]n inviting cocktail of Perkin biography, account of the dye industry and where it led, and social and cultural history up to the present. -American Scientist Garfield leaps gracefully back and forth in time, as comfortable in the Victorian past as he is in the brave new world of petrochemicals and biochemistry. -Kirkus Reviews starred review. [T]he delight of this book is seeing parallels to present-day trends. - New York Times Book Review

- e***e (657)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem as described, well packaged, great price, unfortunately it took 9 days to arrive from stated dispatch date and seller didn’t respond to my request to investigate why tracking was still showing it as awaiting dispatch for a number of days.
- e***d (17)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem arrived earlier than expected, long delivery time but isn’t necessarily the sellers fault only standard shipping available. Item decently packaged could have been more securely packaged though. Good price compared to other marketplaces and sellers. I cannot comment on the seller’s communication as I did not contact the seller. Overall good experience only complaint would be delivery time but again this isn’t solely the sellers fault.
- n***w (3)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseItem arrived on time and was packaged well. The item was exactly as advertised and was amazing value compared to other places. The seller was also incredibly speedy at replying to my enquiries. Although it was not the fault of the seller (the packaging used to send the item was more than sufficient), my figure did have a manufacturing defect (the left hand was broken off). Thankfully superglue put it back in place and no one can tell it was broken.Ichibansho Figure Dragon Ball Demon Piccolo Daimaoh(Ex Mystical Adventure) (#375870724809)
