Synopsis
Marilyn Stokstad's brief introduction is based on the belief that art books should nurture and grow the public's enthusiasm for the arts. Only then will they learn to appreciate art as the most tangible creation of the human imagination. Drawing on 40 years of experience of presenting art to the public, Stokstad has produced a sensitive, engaging, and comprehensive book that looks at art in all of its diversity, from paintings and architecture to tapestries, jewelry and electronic art. The book includes art from all over the world and treats the subject within the essential contexts of history, geography, sociology, politics, religion, and other arts being made at the time., This book, an introduction to the history of art that features excellent scholarship, takes a global approach with an emphasis on the Western tradition in art. It reflects new interests and issues, expanding the topic to include women and minorities, and showing media and techniques other than painting, sculpture, and architecture. Written in clear, standard English without art historical or aesthetic jargon, "Art: A Brief History" is visually appealing as well as intellectually stimulating. This comprehensive survey of world art is based on the most recent scholarship, and includes coverage of arts inspired by all the major religions, the contribution of women and minorities, and contains discussions of all the arts, including ceramics, glass, metal, enamel, and the fiber arts. This book serves as an introduction to the history of art and a ready reference for people working in the arts, including museum docents, and art gallery employees, owners, and managers., Drawing on 40 years of experience of presenting art to the public, Marilyn Stokstad offers this comprehensive look at art in all of its diversity, from paintings and architecture to tapestries, jewellery and electronic art.

Unfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.

Although this book was not as described, with no picture of it in the listing, the seller communicated well and quickly gave me a full refund while letting me keep it. The minimal packaging left the book a bit vulnerable (typical for ThriftBooks), but it did arrive safely and timely. As usual, it’s hit or miss with this seller, but often times you can get great values, and their customer service is always very good. Many other sellers with millions of transactions don’t even communicate.
