LIFE ON MARS is a throwback to the crime-fighting style of the 1970s, drawing its inspiration from such TV series as THE SWEENEY and THE PROFESSIONALS. As was characteristic of classic 60s fantasy, the creators have taken some risks with the showÆs politically incorrect references, daring to be slightly subversive. While its creators are quick to brush off comparisons to fellow time-travelling TV series QUANTUM LEAP, there are obvious thematic similarities, however unconscious. John Simm (HUMAN TRAFFIC) ably stars as Sam Tyler, the fish-out-of-water detective who must piece together the mysteries of his own predicament, while solving the crime du jour. The show takes its title from David BowieÆs haunting theme song.

    Snapshot of the 70's

    It might not be everyone's cup of tea and many people nowadays might be offended by it. But it is a snapshot of how things used to be in the 70's (the good, the bad and the ugly) and has reminded me of so much that I had forgotten about. It also has a very interesting and clever storyline and there is some amazing acting. I did enjoy watching it on the TV when it first came out, nice to have it on DVD.

    FABULOUS!

    This series is absolutely brilliant! The 70's was 'my' era. Good job, motorbike, girlfriend, jealous mates who hated me because I could perform 'Life on Mars' on my guitar (and every other Bowie song!). Cheap cigs and booze and the trae unions destroyed the country! The detective stories are right on the money! The acting and production is superb! I think I'd better buy season 2! Highly recommended! 10/10

    ENJOYING lIFE ON MARS.

    Didn't see this on TV,but on the advice of friends bought a set. Haven't enjoyed anything so much in a long time. Being born in the 40's was able to relate to the dress style and comments made in the script. If you were born in the same period and haven't seen this you should get a copy. You really will be entertained. R Andrews
