Starship Troopers was awesome. The complete piss taking and OTT violence were a marriage made in heaven. The straight to DVD sequel was pants. So here we are with number 3 'Marauder', bad news? -direct to DVD. Good news? -Some elements of the first classic movie are back.. Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) returns, this time a general. Van Dien's return does add clout to the franchise but it is clear that didn't sway the producers to poor a budget on the picture. The effects are straight out of Robocop 3 territory, but we'll blame budget for that, and the actng is still more wooden than Pinochio's arse. Thats ok though as the duff acting is part of the enjoyment. What else then? well on top of the bad effects the violence is toned down. However, ST3 is not a dead loss and surprisingly still ... The bad points is the constant religion theme (yes we got it, we get the irony) and huge grand canyon sized plot holes. If we were bothered about a plot we wouldn't be watching so can't moan about that. If you loved the first and hated the second then you'll probably enjoy the third. If you loved the second film then this will be like Ben Hur as far as qualitly goes in comparison. If they ever make a fourth then please make it more silly and much more violent with a budget please as only then will we make it to the dizzy height of the original movie.

Purchased for myself, due to Robert Heinlein being one of my favourite Authors. This is by far better than the second movie in the series. Time has moved on and Johnny Rico has matured and been promoted to Colonel, still retains that stiff neck attitude of his! Not so many mentions of 'Rico's Roughnecks' but they are mentioned...Once I think it was. And when his girlfriend and friend make an appearance during a visit of the Sky Marshall, his friend has fallen in love with her and he's also been promoted above Johnny, well you'll see the fireworks! And even better the Bugs are BACK! And now it's up to Johnny to 'Kick Ass'!
