Suspense survival film!
Overlooked by Schindler’s List, this was a very good German language film. Not too sure if it is based on a true story, but have heard of many Jewish boys posing as hitler youth.

Europa Europa - become an actor and you'll survive.
This is Polish cinema at its very best. The situation is World War Two, the central figure a young Jewish boy whose family flee Germany for safety in Poland - where of course the Nazis soon arrive. Separated from his elder brother our hero comes first under the very positive protection of the Russians, and then lands up with a Germany platoon. An interlude with an actor gives him survival skills, and then he's faced with how he feels as - with success that puts in question the boundaries between one "race" and another - he manages to pass himself off as a member of the Hitler youth. The lead actor is astonishing, playing this role of a boy discovering himself and not discovering himself by dint of being an actor. The cinematography is top notch - light, images, atmosphere, the feel for ... This is Polish cinema at its very best.
