Fairly good screen version of a wonderful book.

This is a slightly over done version of a wonderful book. However it’s great to see again and I’ve enjoyed watching it. Despite the inevitable variance in the story line between the series and the book, the storyline pretty well follows the plot and brings to life characters. There are some classic actors cast in this screen version, despite this it doesn’t prevent a bit of hammy overacting along the way, but good fun to see - must read the book again soon!

    Thorn birds dvd

Having really enjoyed this film series years ago when I was 16 (now 55) I was looking forward to watching it again. Although the discs were not numbered in order I managed to watch them in the correct order. It would have helped though. Its really great to get these old films/series at such a reasonable price. Hope this review helps for future sales

  • Pulls at the heart strings

This dvd of the Thorn Birds was amazing because of the story line and fantastic cast. I loved the musical score for Meggie (Rachael Ward) which was composed by Henry Mancini. Richard Chamberlain and Rachael Ward were outstanding and the beautiful quote about a legend about a Thorn bird The thorn bird pays its life for just one song, but the whole world stills to listen, and God in his heaven smiles.” It sings a song so beautiful that God and the angels stop and listen in a kind of awe. Rachael Ward/Meggie marries her co star Bryan Brown/Luke O'Neil in Thorn Birds and are still married with a grown up son and daughter. Richard Chamberlain plays a priest who wants to get to the top but he wants not only God but the love of a woman too being Meggie/Rachael Ward. There is a lot of pulling ...

  • Breaking Holy Orders

A brilliant film that broke all holy boundaries and covered them up throughout. Great characters, well-known names in surprising roles and although a long time since shown on TV it has not been forgotten, just waited for the chance to find a copy.

  • Probably wouldn't be made now but a compelling tale of love and desire

Watched it as a child through obviously different eyes but the tale endures containing lessons of the joy and tragedy of life , the pettiness of jealousy and the potential to abuse wealth destructively. But overall you can't explain nor deny the power of love no matter who you are. Probably not a film for sensitive Roman Catholic folk!
