a dark tale set in Tadjikistan
I bought this film because I had already seen the director, Djamshed Usmonov’s other film "To Get to Heaven First You Have to Die", and had liked it very much. Apart from anything else, the very fact that it was by a Tadjik director and set in Tadjikistan made it extraordinarily interesting. But this was not the only reason for liking it. In both films the main character, played by Maruf Pulodzoda, is a criminal from whose evil deeds some good will come. This film is set in the director’s home town of Asht, to which the main character returns after ten years in prison in Moscow, hoping to sell his aparently dying mother’s house and return to Russia with the money. Only things don’t quite turn out like that.... I found it wonderfully interesting. Fanstastic Movie
A fantastic Movie that gives you an interesting insight into the community of life in a remote village in Tajikistan. Crime, gangsters, mafia, struggle of life in an close to documentary style. Video quality is far from perfect, but acceptable.
