  • I wasn't quite as moved as some of the other reviewers

I wasn't quite as moved as some of the professional reviewers. Flags of Our Fathers is a moderately interesting war movie. It tells the story of the famous picture of the marines hoisting the flag at Iwo Jima. The film moves from present to past... from first person to third... all with relative ease. But the trick of doing that sort of story in my opinion is to make the audience care about the characters. I ended up not being emotionally invested in any of the three leads. And I think thats because after the initial storming of the beach (and some sporadic gun fights and flashbacks) there is not a lot of peril faced by the characters. The movie ends up being a sort of prose-y remembrance of a mans father... and a pseudo-documentary following the PR campaign launched by that photo. Im also ...

  • MUST SEE

It is the most memorable photograph of World War II, among the greatest pictures ever taken. The winner of the Pulitzer Prize for photography and one of the most-reproduced images in the history of photography, the picture has inspired postage stamps, posters, the covers of countless magazines and newspapers, and even the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima," a picture taken by Associated Press photographer Joe Rosenthal on February 23, 1945 depicts five Marines and one Navy Corpsman raising the U.S. flag on Mount Suribachi. The image served as a counterpoint for one of the most vicious battles of the war: the fight to take Iwo Jima, a desolate island of black sand barely eight square miles that would prove a tipping point in the Pacific ...

  • Flags of our Fathers did not work in Samsung Blue-ray player

The Blue-ray did not work with my Samsung Blue-ray player. I have never had a problem with any other Blue-ray or DVD disk. Very disappointing.
