Product Information

An evil demon named Varalys casts a curse upon the princess Ann, turning her into three fairies. You control Sir Jim and set out to find the fairies, and then slay Varalys. Only by vanquishing Varalys can the curse be lifted. Once the princess is restored the kingdom will be saved. The fighting is a little more in-depth than hack and slash. You can either fight with a defensive or offensive stance, or you can use magic spells.

A typical and already known example of a prototype and unfinished software developement of the 80s
Hydlide is a piece of video game history but still a typical example of a prototype, unfinished development of the 80s. Back then, the programmers had problems to implement a role-playing concept into a video or computer game. The reason was the very limited memory storage. Just like Dragon Warrior NES and similiar representatives of that time, Hydlide misses the important and essential party group system, to make an interactive storyline and interactions between the PLAYER CHARACTERS possible. ( Role-playing games are constititively played in a group , that's why the name and the three letters RPG) If on a theater stage, LARP, Pen&Paper at the table or in a video and computer game, what clarifies the history and evolution of RPGs, too. Hydlide could have been a great game if not for gameplay bugs, and could have been more well accepted if they would have realized that they needed to travel further into it. Get deeper, more involved in the game that could have shined.
