  • Do not watch if you like historical fact.

Having just finished the book, which is the true story of a heroic Dutch agent and pilot, I was hugely disappointed by the film. The story was altered and lots of important facts left out altogether. It had spurious romantic scenes, and various characters history altered. I realise it was made in the seventies, when an anti war feeling was about, but the book was anti war anyway, so the directors political bias was not relevant. The main character was a pathfinder pilot on 72 missions, and this was not mentioned, instead he was portrayed as a bomber pilot ! The fact that out of 144 Dutch agents landed only 28 survived the war was also not in the film. What a travesty !

  • Soldier of Orange - Nazi occupied Holland in WW2

Soldier of Orange Is a Dutch story set in WW2 under the Nazi occupation of Holland, the Dutch people are forced to choose between collaboration and resistance. Armed with the knowledge that those choices made by fellow countrymen will forever change the fate of their homeland, six college students set out on an epic adventure that will involve courage, betrayal and survival. Stars Rutger Hauer and Edward Fox. Dutch language with English Subtitles Running time 149 mins Excellent film in my opinion.

  • Soldier of Orange DVD

Having seen The Black Book directed by Paul Verhoeven we were recommended to see this film. We were not disappointed with the accuracy of Wartime Holland. Getting the characters into context was difficult at times, but very rewarding. Would thoroughly recommend this film, especially to anyone with an interest in Holland during World WarII.

  • Put your feet up and ENJOY

Probably the best 2nd world war films ever made.It shows the problems one of our close European partners had to put up with, problems that we never encountered here in England. Rutger Hauer is a star in one of his earlier films. Don't be put off with the sub-titles. Enjoy......!
