DHOOM centers on dedicated cop Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan), who takes on boastful gang leader Kabir (John Abraham) with the help of former jailbird and comic foil Ali Akbar Fateh Khan (Uday Chopra). In a film patterned loosely on some famous Hollywood movies--48 HOURS, POINT BREAK, and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS--a daring series of robberies tests police ingenuity as it seems impossible to catch the highly mobile criminals: mounted on souped-up motorcycles, they easily escape pursuit. Tailor made for special effects and dazzling stunt sequences, DHOOM also delivers the familiar masala mix of comedy, drama, romance (Rimi Sen and Esha Deol handle the female roles), and music in support of its superheated pyrotechnics. The action in DHOOM (BLAST in English) doesn't let up from start to finish. Worth mentioning is the tremendous success of the songs, which won many awards as well as the enthusiastic support of music lovers.
