The guitarists guitarist.Lets go big time.
I don't know why when I reviewed Jeff Beck's album eBay put the Johnny Cash album, I have not bought it. The review was for Jeff's 'You Had It Coming' album. Jeff Beck the most underrated plank spanker ever.I have the Hendrix,Vai,Satriani,Page,Hazell etc.Jeff Beck is his own man,not for him the well trodden path to commercial success,every album is a new experience,some jazzy tracks some old school,some cutting edge playing,but every album is a joy to hear I started with Beckola[this inspired the sponge that was Led Zep]dont believe me?Listen to the 1st album,if Jeffs was released a long time before Zepps things would have turned out different.LZ are nomore but Jeff is still at it and this album is a great example,from track 1,Earthquake--a great opener,2 Roy's Toys---warped funk ... If you want to be entertained and you are a fan of guitar gods then Jeff is Zeus.Long Live Zeus!!!!I dont know why my review is shown as Johnny Cash-God,perhaps God wants in.Or perhaps it's all to do with JC &God.

Great guitar player, but could do better.
I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Beck once just outside Maidstone at a place where people go to jam with others, about twenty five years ago. He just kind of wandered up to the bar where my brother & I were standing. My brother was in ore of Mr Beck, as he called him & couldn't comprhend the he was just a man who was, yes, extreamly gifted, but just a man all the same. I think i said something like, "You're Jeff Beck aren't you?" & he was standing there expecting me to ask for his autograph or something. I said, "So have you stopped playing now then, because I've not heard anything from you for far too long & people are starting to wonder". That was a good icebreaker & we talked for a good twenty minutes. My brother just stood there with his mouth open as Jeff told me of some of the ... This CD, "You had it coming" sounds like a demo that a wanabe guitarist would play to other guitarists to big himself up or would send in to try & atract someone's attention at a recording studio. Yes, there's brilliant guitar work on it, but It's all fragmented & sounds like un-finished work & well, just doesn't do it for me. Two tracks get close, but there's something missing. Come on Jeff, play it back & you'll agree. The best work I've heard you play was with other good musicians playing alongside you & the very best of those was a track you did for Stevie Wonder called, "Looking for another pure love", wher Stevie says, "Do it Jeff" & you do just that, in one cut, so I'm led to believe. That Indian sounding track on the CD sounds a bit comercial, but there's something about that makes you want to play it. The track, "Roy's toys" sounds like going to really happen & you're left wondering why it didn't. Team up with some good players Jeff & make it happen again. WE NEED IT!

What can I say? the man is a God! I cannot imagine that anyone else could squeeze the sounds out of a guitar the way Beck does on this album! His range of tones and virtuosity leaves the listener stunned! Everything from metal to classical and world is given his unique spin. He offers up a tidal wave of sounds which, to quoute the late Frank Zappa are "hitherto unkown to people in this region". We are talking serious amounts of talent! The compositions would wipe out a lesser band, but Batten and co rise to the occassion providing an exhilarating ride for Beck's phenomenal guitar work! On your feet or on your knees! buy it now or weep the tears of ignorance forever! (hmmm.......that last bit may be a bit over the top even for me!)
