    HORNBY LIMITED MODEL TRAIN CONTROL

Prroduct serves the purpose of a basic model train controller with limited functionality. Has some features such as tripout when short occurs but re-set means switching off the power supply - this is awkward during use.

  • Most critical review

My least favourite controller so far, but it may depend on the application.

This controller has two output settings to the track, intended to moderate speed or help pull heavier loads. My layout is only small, so I don't have any Flying Scotsmam style locomotives with multiple large carriages. Maybe I'm not seeing the full benefit yet. The R965 sends my light engines round in two thirds of the time. You will require the Hornby P9000w power supply (19V, 0.5A), which can be routed under your track. There are spring clips to power your accessories, like points motors. There is a lead (not shown) to power to your tracks that can also go under the rails. There are grooves underneath to slot onto screws to hold it onto your board, wall, etc. It is not a sealed unit, like the R965. The build quality is similar but my dial fell out immediately. I don't know if ...

  • A nice controller with a few new features!

Very good controller, does everything it says out to do and does it well! The inclusion of the uncontrolled output is really good for people wanting to use electronic accessiories such as points and colour light signals and the built in CDU (Capactior Discharge Unit) means that your accessories like solenoid point motors will function correctly and not burn or be underpowered (Do be aware that if you are purchasing this as your first controller or as a secondary to add to your layout you will need the P9000W Adaptor.) The "Hi & Lo" feature on the controller is also a good bonus for people who are getting into the hobby, this avoids trains going too fast and derailing on corners. The only downside is that the dial feedback is quite loose and poor, there's little or no resistance when ...

  • Hornby Controller

The Hornby Controller I purchased from Jadlam is good value and being brand new does not provide the concern of a second hand Controller. A second hand Controller could be slightly cheaper but has it been PAT tested and provides you with assurance it is safe. A faulty Controller could affect the Trains you are running so it is good practice to buy new Controllers and use a Hornby Transformer to ensure a good safe electric circuit. The price is a bargain if you value the safety of yourself and beloved Trains!

  • Worth saving up to buy a better one if you can.

Very cheap to buy and you get what you pay for. Very, very basic. The acceleration is very rough. Not much happens apart from a lot of noise until you’ve turned the dial half way around. From there it just goes to top speed rather quickly. Don’t forget you also have to buy a transformer and either a power track or a connector. It cuts out too often for my liking if there is an issue with the track or a short circuit. You then have to turn it off and wait a long time for it to reset after unplugging it. On the plus side it has a low and fast speed choice button which is useful if like me you are sharing it with a 3 year old.
