  • Didn't grab us

Whilst there was nothing wrong with this film, it was not of the same standard as the bulk of the body of Jack Nicholson's work.

  • A subtle and thought provoking film with great acting

I loved Jack Nicholson in this film. The film is complex, and subtle and not for viewers who want to see action or laugh out loud comedy. You either love it or hate it. He portrays brilliantly the emotional emptiness that the character has and sadness at never really making a difference to anyone's lives. The ending is very touching indeed, with a drawing from the child he sponsors from Africa who manages to bridge the emptiness and give his life some meaning. The use of a voiceover for conveying the content of letters he writes to his foster child is a very clever technique for giving us access to the character's thoughts and feelings. Kathy Bates is outstanding as the mother of the man his daughter is about to marry. This film inspires you to fully appreciate what you have before it is ...

  • About Schmidt

Jack Nicholson plays a great lead role in a film of a man who loses his wife and feels his life has been full of mistakes. He tries to find purpose in it by visiting relatives etc who really do not want the same . Kathy Bates plays a great role of an inlaw, but Nicholson really excells in his role as Schmidt. Well worth a look for people who appreciate that dry sense of humour, Nicholson excells at !!

  • Gotta Love Jack Nicholson

What can you say that as normal Jack Nicholson portrays his character as well as he has always done thru out his career, This is a very good movie and well watchable, its funny but also serious, but I thoroughly enjoyed it right to the end!
