Reviews
"...The band's signature brown-acid hysteria shares time with suspensefully muted click tracks, adding an element of noir to a world view that was plenty bleak to begin with..." - Rating: B, 3 1/2 stars out of 5 - "...Monster Magnet just interlock and rock like Steppenwolf on steroids...", 7 stars out of 10 - "...Their unblinking dedication to the singular superfuzz groove assures them that special place in your blackened heart...", 4 stars out of 5 - "...Dave Wyndorf is at his ridiculous, melodramatic and highly enjoyable best....after 13 tracks you emerge tired, wired and f***ed senseless from every direction...", Included in Q's "50 Best Albums of 2000" - "...This is sheer heavy glory...", "...About the best thing going in hard rock...", 3.5 stars out of 5 - "...Their most over-the-top album yet....luxuriating in a decadent psych-rock whirlpool....Wyndorf brings the rawk: sexy, dark, melodic, celebratory and, above all, huge."

  • A Phenominal Album from the Greatest Band of all time!

God Says No is cerebral trip into the dark, unknown world of Sci-Fi, Psychedelics, Comic Book Heroes, and whatever else Vocalist/Front-Man Dave Wyndorf feels like feeding us. The First cut titled "Melt," is a perfect example of an abstract Monster Magnet song. I have caught myself trying to figure out just exactly what this songs means to me. It's got that sleazy Magnet Groove. The 2nd track "Heads Explode," hit #26 on the Mainstream Rock Charts in 2001, and appeared on several soundtracks including Dracula 2000. The song "Silver Future," hit #15 on the Mainstream Rock Charts in 2001 along with being heard on the Heavy Metal 2000 OMP. The song "God Says No," hit #153 on Billboard 200 in 2001 as well. My personal favorite cut on this is "All Shook Out," that's what I would call "my" Monster ...

  • Great Music

Another classic album from MM , in my opinion way better than "Superjudge" & "Last Patrol". I found those 2 sounded too much like Hawkwind.

  • monster magnet-god says no

oh my "god" has there ever been a bad magnet album-no!! on this there seventh lp(im including the 25..tab "ep"), the magnet bring back a little more of that psych vibe that we love them for!! opener "melt" sets the mood for the lp with a haunting minor key guitar intro and when mastermind dave wyndorf starts to tell his tale of his dark underground you WILL be enthralled!! during the song he name drops jack kirby and if you dont know who mr. kirby is then i guess your from ths suck generation. "heads explode" kicks off with a killer drum beat that "explodes" into the main guitar riff. daves lyrics tempt you with there references to sex and drugs. he knows of what he speaks!! i get chills thinking about it but, this lp dropped just months prior to the 9.11 attacks. with song titles of ...

  • different from ealrier stuff, but still damn good

"God Says No" normally gets lesser number of stars that their earlier stuff, don't hestitate - it's a very strong album. Yes, it is not so dirty and fresh as some of the earlier cds. Yes, it has rather clean rock-metal sound and rather polished production. But the songwise it still holds very well. It has two songs that are one of my favorites from this band - super heavy and deep "heads explode" and both wavy and melodic title track "god says no". Although the natural move from dirty and rough sound of early stoner metal have killed some of the original bands, Monster Magnet just sound strong and interesting. I guess, it's because of certain philosophy that remains the same and songwriting skills that still shines well.
