Book reasonably good but DVD unreasonably bad.
I had just read the book and became aware of the film. I sent off for it, delivered in good time, stuck it on the DVD player and was totally and utterly disappointed with the film. Acting was not good, even though there were some named actors in it. The guy who played the town 'idiot' was the worst. It did follow the book in lots of places, but characterisation was appalling and it was mainly set-pieces which acted as a moving on scenario. The massive finale was very poor. Would not recommend it other than to see what it might have been, with good direction and better acting.I had just read the book and became aware of the film.
