About this product

Product Information

The Typing of the Dead is for nearly all intents and purposes, an exact copy of the light-gun shooting title, The House of the Dead 2. The big difference however, is that instead of shooting the encroaching zombie hordes, you're required to type in words, phrases, and sentences to eradicate them. The stages, enemies, and game structure are a carbon copy of the aforementioned light-gun title, though new "missions" are interspersed throughout the levels; asking players to defeat a certain number of zombies within a given time limit and other such mini-objectives. Additionally, a bonus gauge fills with every creature defeated, and when full awards the player with an extra life. When the game ends, the player's performance is rated, with an assessment in areas such as typing speed, accuracy, reflexes, judgment, and typing special keys awarded. The player's rank and typing speed (words per minute) are also displayed.<br><br>In addition to the Arcade mode, the game offers Original, Tutorial, Drill, and Boss modes. The Original mode plays out exactly like the Arcade mode, except here the player can acquire and use items as well as earn coins by satisfying one of five conditions for each chapter. The Tutorial mode takes newcomers through five lessons, from a basic tutorial, to quick touch-typing, to free-word training, with the sole aim of improving the user's typing ability. Drill mode provides various drills that test and help improve the player's proficiency in various areas such as typing speed and accuracy. Lastly, the Boss mode allows instant access to any of the bosses already faced in the main Arcade mode, with the objective being to defeat them as quickly as possible. Part game and part typing tutor, The Typing of the Dead requires the Dreamcast keyboard to play.

    Nothing quite like it

    There are very few games like Typing of the Dead and it was a pleasure to finally get my hands on a copy. Be aware, you will need the Dreamcast Keyboard to play the game. If you're a DC collector (or want to be one like myself), then you should definitely have this game in your collection.

    This game is even better than the original. Only Sega could take such a unique concept and apply it to a horror light gun shooter. A must have for Dreamcast collectors and fans!

    Learn touch typing by slaughtering the undead!

    If they would have had this in high school typing class I would have gotten an "A". This game is essentially The House of the Dead 2, but instead of shooting the zombies and creatures you kill them by typing the words that flash on the screen before they get to you. If you are too slow then you are dead! The funniest thing about this game is that the characters don't even have guns. They cruise around with dreamcast's strapped to their back and keyboards propped up in front of them where they can type quickly! With varying levels of difficulty this is one of the games that you can play and use the excuse that you're not wasting time playing games, you are sharpening your typing skills. :)
