Fantastic 80s series
Fantastic series, similar to thriller series in the 1970s and hammer house of horror series in 1980 only each episode is about 20 minutes longer. Great stories and acting. Well worth the money and dvd series arrived in quick time.

Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense
I had recently purchased the Hammer House of Horror (13 episodes) series (I had seen it recently on the re-runs on tv and loved it). So I was looking to see if there was anything similar. I came across Hammer House of Mystery and Suspense and decided to purchase it. Unfortunately, it is alot more expensive (too expensive) for the amount of disks/episodes in the set - which is not helped by the fact that it has been deleted. I do not know why it has been deleted as it seems to be very popular. I have given this an excellent rating as there was only a choice of excellent and good and I felt this series should be rated as very good (not quite excellent). The entire series has the same feel as Hammer House of Horror with similar actors, atmosphere and twists. It has the same format and ... I love this series and it proves that it is a shame that they do not make anymore British thrillers of this calibre such were made in the 1970's/80's. There are however, a few faults. The acting in Child's Play is poor and the ending is ridiculous. Great idea, bad execution. This was a similar criticism to that of an episode from Vol.1 called In Possession (which features another good performance from Christopher Casanove also in Hammer House of Horror) the twist at the end is a complete let down. My favourite episode from Vol.2 is Last Video and Testament as it is full of twists and turns. The rest of the episodes are all good with the exception of Tennis Court which I thought was rather silly. If you like this kind of genre it is a must. I have heard that the Americans have just bought Hammer and plan to re-launch it soon. Lets hope that they can produce more of this kind of series (filmed in England)to the same standard as this.

This 1984 TV series co-produced with Fox was Hammer's creative swan song, 13 mini-thrillers reuniting some of its 1970s creative personnel, importing US guest stars and occasionally lacing the stories with a dash of the supernatural. When first broadcast they seemed divorced from the studio's characteristic ambiance but time's been kind to them and, retrospectively, their period tics and stylings make them feel more like 'proper' Hammer movies. They range from straight crime thrillers such as The Sweet Scent Of Death and the outstanding Czech Mate (a tale of paranoia in the Eastern bloc starring Susan George) through to a man haunting his own past in A Distant Scream, sixties rock stars hiding a ghastly secret in Black Carrion and the suspenseful In Possession and The Late Nancy ...
