Riding Hero is a 2D motorcycle racing game that offers a view of the world from behind the rider. A background picture scrolls in the far distance to give a sense of depth, while the road edges and trackside items fly by to give players a sense of speed. The game includes two modes of play: a standard racing mode and a career mode.<br><br>In the standard racing mode, players participate in a race against several CPU motorcycle riders using one of four motorcycles. The goal is to pass all the CPU opponents and end up in first place. Career mode gives players a stack of money and sets them off on a quest to acquire the ultimate motorcycle. <br><br>Players start with enough money to buy the cheapest motorcycle in the game and must earn additional money by winning a series of races set in different locations. These races can take place anywhere, even on a busy highway. The career mode adds characters and a dialogue-driven story to tie the events together.<br><br>While racing, players can brake or accelerate and steer their motorcycles by leaning in the appropriate direction. Players also have a stock of turbo charges that can be used. Each charge lasts for a limited time and gives the motorcycle a speed boost.<br><br>Riding Hero is one of three Neo Geo games that support a link function between two Neo Geo consoles. With two consoles and two copies of the game, players can link them together using plugs on top of each cartridge. The link-up is not part of the Neo Geo's base hardware capabilities, but is enabled through the cartridge itself.
