Strictly for those who would value the most touching and sensitive aspects of our humanity..An understated, infinitely tender story of one gentle, quiet man's response to the terminal diagnosis he receives, spurring him into selfless action to bring a little happiness to children, which, in common with all acts of kindness and generosity, brings at least as much happiness to the giver as to the receiver. Dead yet Alive...
I already owned ' Ikiru ' prior to making this purchase and didn't realise that it was the basis for ' Living ' before hand with Bill Nighy being the drawing factor. The film was engaging from the offset and this momentum was maintained throughout, the onset of terminal illness bringing about a life change in the piece's central character and perceptions become questionable as the piece advanced. Characters were always relatable within their mix of emotions, ranging from sorrow and tedium to joy. It was easy to feel for them and with themand question our own response within their shoes. The concept of time and the usage of such remained very much at the heart of this piece. A truly lovely film
Bill Nighy is always worth watching but this fiolm is exceptional. A remake of a Japanese film it tells the story of a planning department worker who realises he has only a few months to live and is faced with Cancer. He does not tell his family but a change comes over him at work adn he uses his position to ensure a lasting legacy in a children's playground. the whole work is played with such delicacy.
