This is THE bridge for my banjo.
I installed this fine Golden Gate 5 string banjo bridge with the bone inserts. I had read some negative reviews on this bridge and all those negative things are WRONG. I hear things like the strings don't fit in the slots. That is wrong.I use 11's on my banjo and in the case you do need to do some adjusting on the 4th and 3rd string you can use a welding tip cleaner or an old wound string of the same gaugh to dress the slot and go lightly if you do this so you do not go too deep the rest of the strings will not need this because those slots are already wide enough. Now keep this in mind when using this type of bridge. You will be brightening up your banjo a lot. IF you are looking for a DR. Ralph Stanley or Doug Dillard sound this is a great bridge for this. I installed this on my God Tone OB 150 Masterclone. I liked the stock factory bridge OK but I was looking for more high end and crack like Dr. Ralph Stanley when I played closer to the bridge. This Golden Gate Bridge gives me exactly what I am looking for on my banjo. My banjo came stock with the Zero Glide nut system. I t uses a REMO weatherking head and I used a drum dial to set all the lugs at 90. that puts the head right at G# a traditional bluegrass setting for banjo heads. Next thing I did was set the tail piece adjustment closer to the head. I got it the set to the thickness of a guitar pick. Techs will tell you that the tail piece should be set 1/4 inch off the head but some bluegrassers set it as close to the head as possible. I set it the thickness of a guitar pick. I kept the stock tone ring and did no other modifications to the pot. The resonator is stock as it came with the banjo. This is all stock Gold Tone OB 150 the only things I did was a bridge change and added capo spikes for the 5th string. I included all the specs for a reference. If you feel the need to have what is called in this house, an obnoxiously loud and twangy ear bleeding bluegrass thing, ( I know I am getting the right tone on any instrument I set up when I hear this compliment) then this is your bridge. Try this with the other set up I use and you may experience similar results. IF you need less brightness then try another bridge. This is a bridge for full on bluegrass traditional style that cuts through.For that Stanley style sound this will put you in the ball park.
