Over-priced DVDs
These Egoscue DVDs contain many basic stretches and exercises found on yoga or stretching DVDs costing much less; the Egoscue DVDs even call many exercises by their yoga names. I have quite a few Denise Austin videos, including stretching and yoga, and didn't really see anything new in Egoscue. All exercise videos seem to have annoying features, such as in the Egoscue ones, the instructor says she will use the "mirror" technique, so you can supposedly follow along easier by "mirroring" what the instructor does; for example, she moves her right leg/she calls it her left leg/you should move your left leg. That would be fine, except sometimes she forgets to "mirror" while giving instructions, and for some positions, it would be better if she just called her right leg her right leg so you ... The Egoscue DVDs have the option of watching the video without hearing the instructors, but the short music piece that keeps repeating gets tiresome, and the music "cues" that it's time to switch to the next exercise sound too much like part of the music piece. After you learn the exercises, just turn off the sound completely. Also, the DVDs contain a couple "baseline" fitness tests, but they never go on to relate these tests to how the DVDs are supposed to improve you. The exercises themselves are fine; they've stood the test of time from countless other video instructors.
