Christmas with The Carpenters
Grew up listening to the Carpenters and have always loved their music, and no one can sing like Karen could. I actually bought the Christmas cd because our 4 year old heard them singing a Christmas song on the radio and asked who that was. I told her "The Carpenters" and she said she really liked them. I asked her if she wanted me to buy a cd of them singing Christmas songs and she said "YES" real fast. We played it and she loved it. It is funny when a little one loves the same music you did and still do. I wish Karen was still here, just think of all the beautiful music she still had to offer. Excellent Comprehensive Carpenters Holiday Collection!
Both CD's offered as a set highlight both Carpenters Christmas LP's. Christmas Portrait was recorded and released in 1978. Old Fashioned Christmas (1984) was completed a year after Karen's death. Some songs on Old Fashioned Christmas were recorded for Christmas Portrait and were not used on the 1978 release due to time and space constraints. Richard decided to release the songs not used on Christmas Portrait as a remembrance of his sister Karen (since Christmas was her favorite time of year). As a double CD offering, this CD set highlights all of the secular and sacred songs recorded by Karen and Richard. As with all of their pop standards LP's, these LP's are top notch Holiday listening fare with Karen's marvelous vocals and Richard's exacting production standards. All in all, a ... Here's the scoop... originally i had both of these on cassette, and of course cassettes go bad over time. Both of these are timeless pieces that have the songs arranged in an order than flows like honey from a bottle on a warm day. Then along came the dreaded "christmas portrait" cd that combined elements of both of these. the song flow was blasted apart and the cd missed many of the songs that best captured Karen's classic delivery. So imagine how thrilled i was to have my eyes land on a collection with both cassettes ..er ahem... cd's together in one package with the orginal pacing and all the songs... pure heaven. If you own the one disc set... you havent been treated to how christmas caroling is done right. Karen and even Richard never sounded better. ... If you want beautiful arrangements of all the popular Christmas songs, and some rare ones as well, then this collection is perfect for you. Karen & Richard have never made a "bad record" in my opinion, and this is some of their greatest work. Karen's voice is beautiful, and Richard's composing and keyboard skills really shine in this collection. My favorites are "Sleigh Ride," "Merry Christmas Darling," "It's Christmas Time," "My Favorite Things," the slow version of "Santa Claus is Comin To Town," and "Do You Hear What I Hear?".If you want beautiful arrangements of all the popular Christmas songs, and some rare ones as well, then this collection is perfect for you. Carpenter Christmas songs are a family tradition.
Is there anything more calming than the voice of Karen Carpenter? Perhaps it is because I grew up listening to her in my childhood and teen years and then into my adulthood, but I love her voice. From the moment my children were old enough to understand, they knew that when the Christmas album (later CD) of the Carpenters was played, Christmas had to be coming. It is a part of our family tradition. This is an amazing compilation of songs and the harmony between sister and brother is beautiful. If you are in anyway a fan of the Carpenters you will NOT be disappointed with this CD.Is there anything more calming than the voice of Karen Carpenter?
