In the fourth series of NYPD BLUE, Det. Adrianne Lesniak (Justine Miceli) is replaced by Det. Jill Kirkendall (Andrea Thompson), and James Martinez (Nicholas Turturro) begins a relationship with Gina Colon (Lourdes Benedicto). Before it even appeared on the airwaves, NYPD BLUE was the most controversial show on television in 1993. The show broke new ground and, like its characters Sipowicz (Dennis Franz) and Detective John Kelly (David Caruso), it didn't play by the rules. Weaving nudity and foul language into storylines that tackled issues such as vigilante violence, homosexuality, and prostitution, the cop series became a huge hit with an audience who craved reality.

Simply the best TV Cop show ever made,
I bought this set because I loved the original series. I missed a few episodes all those years ago, and also failed to pick up many of the quick quips made by Dennis Franz. The ability to switch on subtitles makes it so easy to miss absolutely nothing. As a former police officer I do not watch any current TV Police shows, and over the last 25 years NYPD Blue was the only series that I liked. It really is the best-written series, with a superb range of characters and plots. The hand-held camera takes a little bit of getting used to, but having spent time in Manhattan, it is great to be reminded of the way the streets look. If you like top quality Police drama, you will love NYPD Blue.

Andy & Bobby hit top form
This series is one of the best from the NYPD Blue team. Andy Sipowitz and Bobby Simone are really bouncing off each other well now. The stories are solid and the characters are becoming more and more involving as each episode is watched. Truly brilliant.
