Once in a generation a doctor and a book comes along that completely changes the way we think about food and our health. Dr. Gundry is that physician and The Plant Paradox is that book. Following his advice, like I do personally, is life changing., It is rare that a book on health and nutrition introduces truly novel concepts, and rarer still that it backs them up with solid scientific data and clinical proof of validity-but The Plant Paradox does just that. We all owe Dr. Gundry a debt of gratitude for his insight and dedication to a new level of superb health., The Plant Paradox elegantly explains how plants defend themselves from being consumed by humans, and how eating the wrong ones at the wrong times immeasurably hurts our health. An eye-opening read., The Plant Paradox offers a true paradigm shift in the way we think about food. Whether you're paleo, gluten-free, low-carb or plant-based, Dr. Gundry's profound insights and practical advice will help reverse both autoimmune and neurodegenerative disease.

Synopsis
From renowned cardiac surgeon Steven R. Gundry, MD, the New York Times bestselling The Plant Paradox is a revolutionary look at the hidden compounds in "healthy" foods like fruit, vegetables, and whole grains that are causing us to gain weight and develop chronic disease. Most of us have heard of gluten--a protein found in wheat that causes widespread inflammation in the body. Americans spend billions of dollars on gluten-free diets in an effort to protect their health. But what if we've been missing the root of the problem? In The Plant Paradox , renowned cardiologist Dr. Steven Gundry reveals that gluten is just one variety of a common, and highly toxic, plant-based protein called lectin. Lectins are found not only in grains like wheat but also in the "gluten-free" foods most of us commonly regard as healthy, including many fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and conventional dairy products. These proteins, which are found in the seeds, grains, skins, rinds, and leaves of plants, are designed by nature to protect them from predators (including humans). Once ingested, they incite a kind of chemical warfare in our bodies, causing inflammatory reactions that can lead to weight gain and serious health conditions. At his waitlist-only clinics in California, Dr. Gundry has successfully treated tens of thousands of patients suffering from autoimmune disorders, diabetes, leaky gut syndrome, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases with a protocol that detoxes the cells, repairs the gut, and nourishes the body. Now, in The Plant Paradox , he shares this clinically proven program with readers around the world. The simple (and daunting) fact is, lectins are everywhere. Thankfully, Dr. Gundry offers simple hacks we easily can employ to avoid them, including: Peel your veggies. Most of the lectins are contained in the skin and seeds of plants; simply peeling and de-seeding vegetables (like tomatoes and peppers) reduces their lectin content. Shop for fruit in season. Fruit contain fewer lectins when ripe, so eating apples, berries, and other lectin-containing fruits at the peak of ripeness helps minimize your lectin consumption. Swap your brown rice for white. Whole grains and seeds with hard outer coatings are designed by nature to cause digestive distress--and are full of lectins. With a full list of lectin-containing foods and simple substitutes for each, a step-by-step detox and eating plan, and delicious lectin-free recipes, The Plant Paradox illuminates the hidden dangers lurking in your salad bowl--and shows you how to eat whole foods in a whole new way., Most of us have heard of gluten-a protein found in wheat that can cause widespread inflammation in the body. Read this book!!!

If you ever wondered what is going on with your health, and the decline in the health of the Nation, READ THIS BOOK!!! It totally BLEW ME AWAY!!! According to the author, plants have natural defenses that are there to make the predator (us) sick. By consuming them, that is what we do-GET SICK, with everything from arthritis to cancer, to immune system disease, etc. Can't say enough about what is in this book. Everyone I have lent it to also says the same thing. Does it work? Well I will let you know in a while, but I can say I have seen multiple positive changes already that leads me to believe that it is real.

  • Most critical review

Will try some, not all, of the advice

There may be some great advice in this book if you can get any benefit from using some, not all, of the information. As a routine diet guideline it is so restrictive that I’d be miserable trying to adhere. We’ll try some of the suggestions and determine if they help. For example, I love eating peanuts but will switch to almonds. The book gives good and logical explanations for what is suggested. Just not sure I’m ready for this level of change.

  • Keeps your attention, stll reading through it.

I have only just begun to read it. It does make you want to read more....makes some very interesting points about food groups and how 'we eat'. The price is excellent! I have know about the book but didn't put much serious thought until I purchased some sourdough bread from a person who highly recommends the book (sells it in his store). He apparently had some health issues and read the book, liked to give 'more personal' gifts and turned his 'discovery' effort on making bread and now a little business. The bread really good by the way! I know about Dr. Gundry and his methods make sense, have tried a few of his 'suggestions' but that often finds the 'zeal' lessens. But hoping to find some good things about food, preparation and following some recipes as my health has been varying ...

  • Not for the faint at heart

This book is for people who are truly serious about changing their eating lifestyle. Look at the credentials of who wrote it. I’m presently 71 years old, not on a bunch of medications, not in the slightest way overweight and still feel I could do better. I want what years I have left to be productive and still have a good energy level. I wish I would have had a book like this when I was much younger. Some parts may be boring to some but stick with it. Especially if you are younger and have health problems like what this book discusses. So many of the prescribed drugs do more harm than good.

  • This is the book that saved my life.

This is the ultimate book when it comes to your health. Dr. Gundry has explained how the foods we eat are damaging our bodies and has a language that is very easy to understand. Make no mistake. This is a change of lifestyle. If you read it and say "I can't do that" then you're not hurting bad enough. When you hit rock bottom, you'll do any thing to fix it. This is the book to do it.
